A Day at the “Daten-WG” in Cologne

In March, I had the chance to attend an unique event in Cologne: the Daten-WG. The event brought together data enthusiasts, BI professionals, and tech-savvy minds in a relaxed, living room-style setting—while still delivering a strong dose of expert insights.

Microsoft Fabric in the Spotlight

A major focus of the event was Microsoft Fabric, Microsoft’s new all-in-one data platform. Several sessions explored how Fabric unifies analytics, reporting, and AI innovation. The key topics included:

  1. Centralized data storage with OneLake
  2. Data quality and governance using Microsoft Fabric Data Experiences
  3. Generative AI based on structured enterprise data via Azure AI Studio

One presentation clearly illustrated the roadmap to AI maturity, helping visualize the necessary steps from data consolidation to true AI enablement:

Best Practices from the BI Community

A personal highlight for me was the talk on Multilingual and Flexible Reporting with Power BI. In internationally operating companies, these topics are crucial—and his session delivered both technical depth and real-world solutions.

Beyond the great content, what really made this event special was the community. Between flipcharts, casual coffee chats, and deep discussions about data architecture, DAX, and AI, it was an inspiring space for open exchange and learning.

My Takeaway

The Daten-WG in Cologne was more than just a conference—it was a creative, community-driven experience centered on modern data platforms and business intelligence. A big thank-you to the organizers and all speakers for making it such a memorable day!
