I’m thrilled to share a recent milestone in my journey of empowering businesses with data-driven insights—I had the opportunity to deliver a comprehensive Power BI training course to the employees of Samsung at their Zurich office. It was an exciting experience, packed with learning, hands-on sessions, and interactive discussions, all aimed at helping participants harness the full potential of Power BI to transform their business intelligence practices.
Power BI: Unlocking the Power of Data
The modern business landscape is increasingly driven by data, and understanding how to make sense of it is crucial for gaining a competitive edge. That’s where Power BI comes in—a powerful analytics tool that enables organizations to connect to various data sources, perform in-depth analysis, and create dynamic reports and dashboards to visualize data in a meaningful way.
In this training, I wanted to ensure the participants not only understood the basics of Power BI but also gained the skills to implement advanced techniques that could drive business insights. The agenda was packed with key topics, each designed to provide a well-rounded understanding of Power BI’s capabilities.
Comprehensive Agenda to Tackle Every Aspect of Power BI
We started the training with the basics, introducing the participants to What Power BI Is and how it fits within the broader business intelligence ecosystem. Understanding the architecture behind Power BI was key to setting the stage for more advanced topics, as we dived into Data Sources and Connectivity, a critical aspect when it comes to integrating data from various platforms into a cohesive system.
One of the most exciting parts of the course was when we moved into the Data Transformations with Power Query module. Power Query is a powerful feature that allows users to clean, transform, and prepare their data for analysis. Many of the Samsung employees were amazed at how quickly they could clean complex datasets and make them ready for analysis without needing advanced programming skills.
This segued perfectly into Table Relationships and Modeling, where we discussed how to set up relational models and establish connections between different data tables. In a company like Samsung, where multiple datasets from different departments and product lines need to be analyzed together, building efficient data models is essential for insightful reporting.

Advanced DAX: Supercharging Data Analysis
As the participants became more familiar with Power BI’s core functionalities, we progressed into more advanced territory. One of the highlights was our deep dive into Data Analysis Expressions (DAX). DAX functions empower users to perform complex calculations and data aggregations within Power BI, and I wanted to ensure everyone was comfortable using both basic and Advanced DAX Functions.
These functions enable users to calculate measures and create powerful visualizations that go beyond simple data analysis, helping Samsung employees unlock richer insights. For example, they could use DAX to track performance metrics over time or segment customer data in ways that drive smarter business decisions.
Interactive Reports and Dashboards: Turning Data into Action
Of course, understanding data is only part of the journey—the ability to share and visualize insights is where true business value is created. We spent a considerable amount of time on Visualizations, Reports, and Dashboards, where participants learned how to design interactive reports that can be shared across teams.
One of the key benefits of Power BI is its ability to create dynamic, interactive reports that allow users to drill down into the details they care about. The participants were particularly enthusiastic about the possibilities for creating custom dashboards tailored to specific business needs. By the end of the course, the Samsung team was adept at creating dashboards that not only looked great but also provided actionable insights at a glance.
Deployment and Sharing: Bringing Insights to the Team
In addition to creating reports, I also focused on the importance of Deployment and Sharing in Power BI. Businesses need to ensure that the insights gathered from their data are accessible and useful to the right stakeholders. In this section, I guided the team through best practices for publishing reports, managing permissions, and securely sharing their insights across the organization.
A Learning Experience for All
Delivering this Power BI training course to Samsung employees was both a rewarding and insightful experience. The enthusiasm and dedication of the participants were truly inspiring, and I am confident that the skills they gained will help them drive data-led decisions within their teams.
The sessions sparked thought-provoking discussions around the use of AI, machine learning integration, and data governance, which are areas I’m excited to explore in future courses. I’m looking forward to seeing how Samsung will utilize the power of data to continue innovating and making strategic decisions in a fast-paced, competitive market.
